Suiattle River Recreation

Sulphur Creek Campground is a more remote campground located 22 miles down the Suiattle River Road, almost to the end of the road.  You could take a whole week just to enjoy the numerous trails of the Suiattle River Recreation Area, both day hiking and backpacking.  Just past the campground on the Suiattle River Road is the Suiattle River Trail and access to the Pacific Crest Trail.  Right across the road from the campground is the Sulphur Creek Trail traveling along the at times steep Sulphur Creek.

Much of the southside of the campground is adjacent to the Suiattle River.  Some people like to reserve these campsites and bring their kayaks and explore the river.  In earlier summer the river creates some pretty exciting whitewater when there is a steady flow of glacial melt happening.

Sulpher Creek Campground is more remotely located, 7 miles north of Darrington, then 22 miles east on the Forest Service Road, Suiattle River Road.  This puts you right in the heart of the Suiattle River Recreation area with miles of hiking trails and whitewater at your command.  From the campsites, you can hear the rushing waters of Sulpher Creek and the Suiattle River.

Some campsites are walk-in tent camping and some provide adjacent parking for vehicles.  There is primitive access to the Suiattle River from which one could launch a kayak. Reservations may be made online or via first come first served basis. See facility map.

To get to Sulphur Creek Campground from Darrington, drive north on SR 530 for about 7 miles, turn right onto the Suiattle River Road, FSR #26.  Drive about 22 miles, the campground will be on the right.
