North Fork Sauk; dispersed campsites

If you are looking for trail riding, you might want to check out the dispersed Camp Sites at the end of Sloan Creek Road, also known as Forest Service Road # 49. The Maximum occupants to stay at this camping site is 12, Horses and other stock count as an occupant). The road forms a loop where the campsites are located making a good turn around for hauling trailers.  Just a little ways south there is another trail open for stock Bald Eagle Trail.

At the trailhead is a vaulted toilet, additional parking is available for associated parties which did not trailer in.  Hitching post are provided near the stock unload area. Just beyond this, Sloan Creek flows along side the camping area.  Dispersed Campsites are first come first served,  the only amenities furnished is a vaulted toilet.  Bring drinking water and if you pack it in please pack it out.

Close to the dispersed campsites is the North Sauk Trail and Bald Eagle - Curry Gap Trails, both equine friendly and access to the Pacific Crest Trail. If you are seeking a guide for this trip or to assist in drop camping see our local equine services & outfitters. 

To get to North Fork Sauk Dispersed campsites and the trailhead #649 from the Darrington Ranger Station, take the Mountain Loop Hwy 17 miles to the Sloan Creek Rd. FS Rd. #49, turn left and drive 6.6 miles to trailhead and campsites.  For more information contact the Darrington Ranger Station.

Fee: Being these dispersed campsites are located at the North Fork Sauk trailhead a Northwest Forest Pass or trailhead fee is required.
Accommodations:
Campsites: 12 occupants, horse, stock and people count as 1 occupant

Dispersed Campsites are not Campgrounds and do not have:
  • A camp host
  • Garbage receptacles
  • Potable water
  • No reservations & is first come first served
They do have:
  • Vehicle pull ins
  • Vault toilet

Season:  Year Round

Being able to camp at dispersed campsites is a wonderful recreation to have available.  Please keep our backcountry clean and do not blaze new roads by driving where roads are closed or nonexistent.
