Upcoming Temporary Closure of the North Fork Sauk Trail on Darrington Ranger District

posted Jun 25, 2016, 10:16 AM by Discover Darrington
The Forest Service will close the North Fork Sauk trail # 649 between mile 5 at Mackinaw Shelter camp and the Junction with the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) beginning July 27, 2016.

The trail is scheduled to reopen the morning of August 4, 2016. This closure is necessary for safety reasons while trail repair work takes place on the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail directly above the North Fork Sauk Trail. This work has the potential for rocks and debris to roll down the mountainside which would put trail users at risk of injury.

This will affect access to the Pacific Crest Trail and Glacier Peak climbing route. In addition to the closure of the North Fork Sauk trail hikers should be prepared for intermittent closures of up to one hour on the Pacific Crest Trail between the junction of the North Fork Sauk trail and Red Pass to the north during these dates.

Alternative routes to access Glacier Peak and the Pacific Crest Trail in the area include the Pilot Ridge trail # 652 to Blue Lake then trail 652A to the PCT. The Suiattle River trail # 784 also provides access to the Pacific Crest Trail.
